01The challenge
A young couple with a small child, both working from home a few days a week. They needed two quiet work corners, a ground-floor room for the grandmother, and a green courtyard even though the lot isn't large.
02Design concept
The facade is split into two volumes: a white one holding the staircase and service rooms, and a wood-clad one holding the master bedroom. Between them, a light well runs through all three floors.
The light well draws daylight all the way down to the living room and keeps air moving through the house.

03Living spaces
The ground floor has the grandmother's room, the living room and a kitchen opening onto the back courtyard. The second floor has the master bedroom and the child's room. The third floor holds two work corners overlooking the light well, with sliding doors to close off for meetings.

04Materials & details
- Outdoor composite wood louvers that won't warp
- Matte gray granite on the wall bases and front steps
- Soundproof aluminum doors for the street-facing bedrooms
- Recessed strip lighting in a warm 3000K
The lot isn't big, but the house is never dark. I can work on the third floor and still hear my child playing downstairs.
Results
The house was completed after 9 months of construction. Thanks to the light well, the family can keep the lights off all day on the ground and second floors.
