Modern Gray Townhouse

Gray tones paired with dark wood give this townhouse a clean, modern look that still feels warm.

01The challenge

Townhouses tend to be deep and narrow, so the middle of the house often lacks light. The owners also wanted few decorations so daily cleaning would be easy.

02Design direction

Walls and floors are a light gray that reflects light, with dark wood furniture as accents. Large glass doors and recessed lights keep every room evenly lit.

  • A low sofa with slim legs makes the living room feel larger
  • Tall, dark kitchen cabinets with lightly veined stone counters that wipe clean easily
  • Wood paneling behind the bed in the bedroom, with hidden indirect lighting

03Construction

Wiring, lighting and wood paneling were all planned together from the drawings, so nothing had to be chiseled out or redone during installation.

Results

The home is brighter, tidier and easier to keep up, true to the minimalist spirit the owners wanted.
