Sun louvers: a beautiful facade, a cooler home

Wood louvers, aluminum louvers or ventilation blocks all help keep a house cooler and more private. Each one suits a different kind of home.

Facade clad in wood louvers and dark metal panels

For west-facing homes or those right on a busy road, a layer of louvers in front of the facade blocks sun, dust and prying eyes, while still letting the breeze through.

Wood louvers

Warm and inviting, ideal for modern homes and garden houses. Choose heat-treated wood or wood-plastic composite so they won't warp outdoors.

Aluminum louvers

Durable, lightweight and almost maintenance-free. They can be finished with a wood-grain coating. A good fit for townhouses and offices.

Ventilation blocks

Affordable, easy to build and very well suited to hot, humid climates. Ventilation blocks cast beautiful shadows on the walls in the afternoon.

Distance from the wall

Louvers should sit 40–60 cm from the glass so air can circulate between the two layers. A gap of about 6–10 cm between slats is just right for blocking sun while staying airy.
